Morris (known as Wally) was born in October 1920 in St George in the East, London to Polish parents Isaac and Ethel nee Kirszenbaum and had three older sisters Leah, Mary and Rachel. Their father worked as a tailor. The family at the time of Morris’s death were living at 76 Marlpit Lane, Coulsdon in Surrey.

Morris was the pilot of Wellington LB185 which departed RAF Haverfordwest on a night exercise. The crew were unable to obtain radio direction fixes and became uncertain of their position. As their fuel ran low the pilot descended through cloud to obtain a visual position fix and the aircraft struck the hilltop of Moel y Croeso. Four crew were killed and two were seriously injured.
