Joseph was born on 12 March 1903 in Hull, Yorkshire to Isaac who was born in Latvia and Cecily nee Goltman and he was eldest of five children.

Details of Joseph’s service are unknown. He died at Fusehill Emergency Hospital, Carlisle and his death certificate states: Shock following fractured ribs and ruptured liver sustained through being accidentally struck by a motor lorry whilst walking on the highway.
