Sidney was born on 21 Apr 1921 in Hackney to Alexander and Bella nee Rothenstein and he had one sister named Vera who married Jacob Simons.

Sidney enlisted into the RAF in 1940 and was training in Canada when he lost his life. He was one of four RAF airmen who died in the crash of Avro Anson R6709 aircraft. During a night training flight the Anson struck a tree during a heavy snow storm, 1 mile south-east of Avon, Ontario.
