Jack was born in Hendon in 1924 to Charles and French born Yvonne née Ledoux and had three siblings, Doris, William and Nina. Their father Charles served in the Royal Army Service Corps and married Yvonne when she was seventeen in France. In 1939 the family lived at 33 Woodlands, Hendon where Charles was listed as an employment agent.

Jack was an air bomber on Lancaster ND735 which departed RAF Downham Market on an operation to Dessau. It was the crew’s second operation. The aircraft crashed at 21.00 near Friesenhagen, Germany killing six of the crew. A/G Alastair Wares survived the crash and was transferred to a hospital in Wissen, only to be killed in an allied air raid on the 11th March.
