Nathan was born 13 April 1913 in Mile End Old Town, London to Samuel and Leah nee Feltz. After their marriage they changed their surname from Daraviansky to Daren. Nathan had three brothers and two sisters Alexander, Sidney, Reuben, Polly and Miriam. Sidney and Reuben also served in the RAF.

Nathan drowned on SS Anselm when it was torpedoed north of the Azores on 5 July 1941. He was travelling to join the North Africa Campaign. Three other Jews drowned on the ship and are commemorated on this website, Gerald Michaelson, Maurice Joseph and Jack Segar.
