Norman was born on 21 February 1922 in Holborn, London to Jack (Isaac) and Jennie nee Poster and he had a younger sister Sybil. Both Jack and Norman worked as carpenters.

Norman enlisted into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and was killed due to war operations in Victoria Road, Saltburn in North Yorkshire.
