George was born on 19 April 1916 in Hampstead, London to Joseph, who ran a drapery company, and Rachel nee Mandel and he was the middle of three
brothers. All three brothers served in the Army and his younger brother Peter died as a Japanese Prisoner of War in 1943.

George married Chicago born Frances Stillwell in 1941 and their daughter Carole was born in 1944.

George was commissioned on 6 September 1940 but details of his service are unknown. In 1945, he was on sick leave suffering with nervous troubles and living at Borough Marsh, Twyford in Berkshire. His wife stated that she went out to a barn where George had gone to sort out a cupboard and found him unconscious with a revolver lying near to him. He died at the Royal Berkshire hospital in Reading and the coroner stated that he sadly took his own life whilst the balance of his mind was disturbed.
