Isadore was born in 1920 in St George in the East, London to Russian born Charles and Leah née Tobenhaus whose family emigrated from Warsaw, Poland. Isadore had a brother Myer who died when he was two and a sister Jeane Ellen who married Moss Litman. Their father ran a drapers shop.

Isadore was the flight engineer on Lancaster NF974 which departed RAF Kirmington on a night operation to Frankfurt. The aircraft was attacked by a night fighter and caught fire before going into a steep dive and crashing near Mannheim killing five of the crew.
