Benjamin was born on 27 October 1901 in Whitechapel, London to Morris who was born in Riga, Latvia and Lily (Freelah) who was born in Pinsk, Belarus and he had two sisters and two brothers. Morris and Benjamin both worked as tailors in Cable Street, London.
In 1933, Benjamin married Ada Ballabon, and their daughter Margaret was born in 1934. Benjamin enlisted at the outbreak of war as a driver in the Royal Army Service Corps.
He died at St Mary Abbots hospital from: 1(a ) Right Pleural Effusion, (b) Pleurisy and Bronchiectasis.
