Ronald was born in 1924 in Hackney, London to Russian born David and Pauline née Woolfstein. Ronald’s father worked as a master tailor in Hackney. Ronald had one brother Sydney who served in the Royal Engineers in WW2. Ronald and Sydney both attended Owen’s School, Bedford.

Ronald was the flight engineer on Lancaster KB779 which departed RAF Middleton St George on a night operation to Osnabruck. Ronald and the rest of the crew who were Canadian were lost without trace.
