Edward Goldenbloom was born on 15 October 1908 in Whitechapel, London to Polish parents Isaac Goldenbloom and Eva née Bolotnikoff and he had eight siblings. Isaac became a naturalised British citizen in 1902. In 1911 the family lived in Aldgate and Isaac worked as a bootmaker. Eva died in 1926 and Isaac died the following year in 1927 with their Aunt Rose then taking care of the children. In 1939 Edward lived at 302 Redcliffe Square, Kensington and worked as an unqualified dispenser before he enlisted in 1940 and trained as a wireless operator and air gunner.

On the night of 25 May 1943 the crew of Wellington HE150 departed from RAF Leconfield at 23.19 on an operation to bomb Dusseldorf. They dropped their bombs on the target area at 01.41 while flying at 17,000ft when the aircraft was hit and damaged by flak while in the target area. They were able to make a safe return to Leconfield and land at 03.59.

The aircraft was repaired and the same crew with an extra 2nd pilot departed from RAF Leconfield at 23.14 to again bomb Dusseldorf. The aircraft was hit by flak and exploded with all crew killed.
