Hyman was born on 1 March 1894 in Lodz, Poland to Jacob, a tailor and milliner, and Annie and the family became naturalised British citizens in 1907. Hyman married Polish born Kate Geller in 1919 and the 1921 Census shows them living at 5 Warwick Street, London and Hyman was working as a tailor and Katie was a milliner. Their first child Jacob was born in 1922 followed by Helen in 1924. In 1939, the family were living at 15 Mount Pleasant Lane, Hackney and Hyman was still working as a tailor. He enlisted into the Pioneer Corps at the beginning of the war. He died at Cambridge Military hospital and his death certificate states his cause of death was Angina Pectoris and Coronary Artery Disease.
