Alroy was born on 14 June 1918 in Islington, London to London born parents William and Henrietta nee Wolfsbergen and he had a younger sister Jeanette. Their father William worked as the principle accountant at the Admiralty and he was awarded the OBE and the Coronation Medal in 1945 for his services. After finishing school Alroy worked as an electrical engineer before enlisting in the Army.

His Army records state that he died as the result of an accident. Alroy is also commemorated on a token on his parents grave in Willesden Jewish Cemetery.
