Anthony was born in 1924 in St Pancras, London to Maurice (Moses) and Rebecca née Melnikoff and had two younger brothers Dennis and Ronald. Anthony’s father Maurice was born in Whitechapel and his mother Rebecca was born in Russia. Rebecca arrived in England in 1905 and married Maurice who was a tailor in 1923. In 1939 the family were living at 211 Albany Street, St Pancras.

Anthony was the flight engineer on Lancaster LL695 which departed RAF Waterbeach on a night operation to Duisberg. The aircraft was attacked by a night fighter and crashed near Eindhoven killing three crew with two becoming prisoners of war and the other two crew managing to evade.
