Jack was born July 1923 in Hackney, London to Elias and Deborah nee Goldstein and he had an older sister Leah. Their parents married in 1914 in the East London Synagogue and their father was a shopkeeper selling china and glass.

Jack enlisted in 1942 and worked as an aircraft fitter. He was known as ‘Lofty’ as he was over six feet tall. In 1945 he was based in Evere (Haren) RAF Air Base – B56. On January 1st 1945 at 09.00 between 30 and 40 ME 109’s attacked B56 destroying seven Sparrow aircraft on the ground killing Jack who was working on one of the aircraft.
