Oswald was born on 3 April 1922 in Vienna, Austria. Details of his family are unknown. He was listed on the male enemy alien list in 1939 as being seventeen and a butcher’s assistant. He was living at Barham House, Claydon in Suffolk which was used to house children who were bought to England on the Kindertransport.

Little is known about his military service but his death certificate states that he was based at Havant with 229 Company. On the twenty-ninth April 1944 he was onboard a train under military escort when he committed suicide by jumping out 200 yards west of Down End railway bridge in Fareham, Hampshire.
