Joseph was born on 4 May 1922 in London to Henry, a brass plate engraver, and Marie nee Barnett and he was the youngest of eight children. In 1939, the family lived at 11 Strahan Road, Bethnal Green and Joseph was listed as working as an apprentice carpenter.
Joseph was killed during the Normandy Campaign.
