Louis was born on 1 January 1924 in Nottingham to Abraham and Dora née Henry and had one brother Henry. In 1939, the family were living at 247 Denman Street, Nottingham where Louis’s father Abraham worked as a hardware dealer.

Louis was an air gunner in Lancaster PB412 which departed from RAF Wickenby to lay mines in the Baltic. The aircraft was lost without trace. Oblt. Rudolf Szardenings of 5./NJG3 claimed a 4-engine aircraft 30km north-west of Ringköbing at 22:05 at a height of 900 meters, his tenth victory.
