Max was born on 18 May 1909 to Lewis Rothstein and Sarah nee Shedledsky. Max was named Marks Rothstein and changed his name to Radstone.

Max married Rose Schneider in 1929 and they had three children John, Suzanne and Valerie. Max ran a ladies’ gown and sportswear company. In 1940, Rose and the children sailed to America where they were residing when Max was killed.

On 8 March 1941 Max was on leave and went with other airmen to the Café de Paris club in the West End of London. The club was thought to be safe as it was twenty feet underground. Two bombs hit the building, travelled down a ventilation shaft and exploded in front of the band. Max was amongst 34 people who were killed including Joseph Rafer who is also commemorated on the website.
