Lolly (Solomon) was born on 25 Jun 1906 in Rochford, Essex to Max and Sophia nee Backer. He married Henrietta Greenhill in 1930 and they had two daughters, Jane and Ann. In 1939, the family were living at 80 Cholmley Gardens, Hampstead where Lolly was an Air Raid Warden and working as a manager at a dyeing company.

It is known that Lolly worked in the Technical Branch but further details cannot be found to date.

His obituary in the Jewish Chronicle states: On Sunday June 10th 1945 at the Westminster Hospital, F/Lt. Solomon (Lolly) Shire. R.A.F.V.R after an operation.

Lolly’s death certificate states that his cause of death was: ‘Paralytic ileus following partial colectomy for megacolon.’
