Ernest was born in September 1920 in West Ham, East London to Isaac (Fred) and Rachel nee Feast and he was the youngest of six children. Their father Isaac, who worked as a fishmonger on East India Dock Road, enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps in Sept 1917. He transferred to the RAF in 1918 and served as an aero rigger in 139 Squadron serving in Italy until August 1919.

In 1939 the family were living at Percy’s Close on the East India Dock Road and Isaac was a fish fryer.

It is unknown to date details of Ernest’s enlistment and training. Ernest died as the pilot of Kittyhawk FS401 in Chad. We are looking for further information on his service and death. Please contact us if you can help.
