Patricia was born in 1923 in West Ham to Jacob and Bessie nee Baum and had three sisters. The family moved to Paignton, Devon and in 1939 were living at 7 Wilbarn Road where their father Jacob is listed as an insurance broker. Patricia worked as a secretary in Torquay before enlisting.

Patricia had only been a WAAF for five weeks when she was killed alongside WAAF’s Joan Chandler and Irene Collett on the night of 16/17 Feb 1943 at RAF Fairwood Common in Swansea. That night Swansea endured a particularly heavy raid, which thankfully proved to be the last air-raid of Swansea during the war. During the raid, enemy aircraft dropped three or four bombs on the Station causing the deaths of the three WAAFs.

The Sunday Mirror of March 7th 1943 reported the following:
BOMB ENDS LOVE STORY
“I’m keeping my fingers crossed, the war will end one day.” These were the last words written by 19 year old W.A.A.F. Patricia Baxter to her parents and Hannah, her childhood nurse, of Mansfield Rod, Ilfracombe.
The same night a bomb hit Pat’s billet in South Wales. She was one of three killed. Just before last Christmas her sweetheart, now Sergeant-Pilot Roy Bond, came home from Canada, and they became engaged.
