Solomon was born on 12 February 1914 in Prestwich, Lancashire to Polish born Abraham and Scottish born Bessie née Levy. It was a large family with eight children in total. Abraham died in 1936 and Bessie moved to live with Solomon’s sister Isabella’s family. In the 1939 Register they are living at 4 Edson Road, Manchester and Solomon was working as an upholsterer.

Solomon was an air gunner on Wellington R1524 which departed RAF Mildenhall on a night operation to Mannheim. The aircraft was shot down and crashed at Fouron St Martin, Belgium. The crew are buried together in a collective grave.
