Michael was born in April 1913 in Whitechapel, London to Nathan and Betsy neé Fischer. The family were living in Leeds, Yorkshire at the time of Michael’s death. Research is ongoing to find further information about the family.

Michael was the navigator on Wellington BK255 which departed from RAF Seighford with seven other aircraft on Operation Nickel to drop leaflets over Germany. The aircraft crashed while returning to base in Deep Meadow, Spain Farm, South of Exeter airfield killing four of the crew.
