Louis was born on 13 January 1921 in Dublin, Ireland to Maurice and Deborah nee Solomon. He was the eldest child and his siblings were Rose, Kathrine and Philip. Their father worked as a picture frame maker. Louis attended Kildare Place school in Dublin and was a member of the 16th Dublin Scout Group. Further information on the family will be uploaded soon.

On the 29th June 1946, Dakota KJ918 of 48 Sqn, departed Singapore on route to Calcutta, India. On board the aircraft were 4 crew members and 14 passengers, 10 of whom were RAF Police of No 20 RAFP District Detachment who were being posted to Burma. After brief stops at Kuala Lumpur and Butterworth (Malaya), the aircraft left for Rangoon, Burma. Whilst on this leg the pilot reported that the aircraft had entered severe weather conditions and he was returning to Butterworth. He reported his position as being on the North East coast near a place called Yala. His call was followed by another message reporting extremely bad weather conditions that were forcing him to return to Butterworth. Thirty three minutes later, another call was heard from the pilot who reported being in a terrible storm somewhere over the Cameron Highlands. That was the last message received from the aircraft and when it failed to return to Butterworth a full-scale search was initiated to locate it. Although the search continued for many weeks afterwards in the area of Kedah, no trace of the aircraft was ever found and all eighteen on board were believed to have been killed.
