Harry was born 11 March 1913 in Hull, East Yorkshire to Ukraine born father Louis, a manufacturing tinsmith, and Polish mother Esther nee Jacob and he had an older sister Pearl. The family lived in Hull where Harry attended Boulevard Municipal Secondary school and Hull University College. After university he was articled to a solicitor where he worked in Hull and Grimsby for five years and after completing his training he qualified as a solicitor and set up his own practice in Scunthorpe. In 1939, the family lived at 19 Home Street in Scunthorpe. He joined the Tank Regiment in 1940 and served through the whole Middle East campaign. At the beginning on 1946, he was posted back to England on account of his father’s illness and two days after his demobilisation he was taken ill and rushed to hospital for an operation for appendicitis where he sadly died. News of his son’s sudden death is believed to have hastened his father’s end and he died the following day.
