Research is ongoing for details of Maurice’s life. His record card states that his next of kin was his brother Bernard. Bernard lived at Rue Eugenie, Port Said in Egypt where he ran the Appalah Drug Store.

Maurice was an able seaman on the S.S. President Doumer. On the 30th October 1942 the ship was en route from Freetown to the UK when it was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-604 when north-east of Madeira whilst in Convoy SL-125. The master, 173 crew members, 23 gunners and 63 troops were lost.
