Peter was was born on 23 May 1923 in Islington, London to Charles (Solomon) and Evelyn née Burnford (Bernstein) and had an older sister Judith. Their parents divorced, and in 1939 the register lists Peter as a student and living with his mother and sister Judith in Hendon. Peter enlisted the following year and trained as a pilot.

Peter was the pilot of Lancaster JB713 which departed RAF Downham Market at 21.56 for an operation to Harburg. The cause of the crash is unknown which killed all crew.
