Ivor was born 4 August 1914 in Glasgow to Samuel and Gertie nee Benson. Ivor had three brothers Jacob, Julius and Lionel. The family moved from Scotland to Golders Green and Samuel founded the Sinai Federation Synagogue in Woodstock Avenue.

Ivor attended Queen’s Park Secondary School before joining King’s College London Hospital to train as a doctor where he qualified in 1939. He is commemorated in Kings College Chapel. Ivor enlisted into the RAF Medical Branch in 1942.

His death record states that he died from an embolism following an appendicectomy, broncho pneumonia and schizophrenia at 3 Indian Base General Hospital in Poona.

Ivor currently has a cross on his headstone and the CWGC has looked at our evidence provided that he was Jewish. A new headstone will be commissioned with a Star of David.
