Morris was born on 19 May 1924 at 11 Muirhead Street, Glasgow, the youngest of five children born to Louis, a tailors machinist and Annie nee Burstein. Louis died aged fifty in 1941 and his death certificate states that his cause of death was fracture of the cervical vertebrae. Morris’ older brother Hyman was killed serving in the Royal Engineers, 156 Bomb Disposal Coy. on 31 December 1944, five months after him, and is buried in Moro River Canadian War Cemetery, Italy.

Morris enlisted into the Royal Navy and worked as an air mechanic at H.M.S. Landrail, Machrihanish, Argyll in Scotland.

The Royal Navy death records state that he died from multiple injuries sustained in an accidental explosion at the Royal Naval air base.
