Henry was born on 15 August 1914 in Salford, Lancashire to Polish born father Abraham and Manchester born mother Celia (Priscilla) nee Gilbert and he had three brothers and a sister. Their father Abraham worked as a tailor’s presser working on mantels, costumes and rainproofs. In 1939, Henry was listed as running his own company as a joiner, decorator and general property repairer. He met and married Queenie Yellin in 1943 and their son was born in 1946.

During the war Henry served at H.M.S. Drake in the Royal Naval Barracks at Devonport. His death certificate states that after the war he worked as a hairdresser. He died aged thirty-three at St Bartholomew’s hospital, London from bacterial endocarditis, rheumatic heart disease and pulmonary cerebral embolism.
