Lawrence was born 12 August 1915 in King’s Norton, Warwickshire to Joseph and Lydia née Lyons. Husband of Ellen née Dowling of Paddington, London.
Lawrence was the pilot of Stirling EF254 which departed RAF Tuddenham on a Special Operations Executive mission. The aircraft crashed at Villabon in central France killing five of the crew and the bomb aimer and a gunner were captured.
