Harold was born in April 1923 in Hull, Yorkshire to Wolfe and Jennie nee Winetraube and he had a younger brother and sister, Ronald and Rosalie. Their father worked as a tailor and in 1939 the family lived at 23 Freehold Street in Hull. Records state that Harold was the ‘Table Tennis Champion of Hull, 1941’.
Harold was the navigator on Lancaster ND502 which departed from RAF Little Staughton at 23.55 on an operation to attack the marshalling yards at Lens. The aircraft crashed in the NW suburbs of Arras in the Pas-de-Calais killing six of the crew who are buried in Ste-Catherine Communal Cemetery.
