On September 13th, 1939, the British motor-schooner Harwarden Castle left Nieuwpoort in Belgium for London with a cargo of cement and bricks and went missing. She was not heard of ever since. This ship was probably sunk by a mine of U-17 as the finding of a small unidentified wreck littered by yellow bricks in this position indicates.
