Nathan was born in April 1916 in Leeds, Yorkshire to Polish born parents Samuel and Sophie née Rockman. Nathan’s mother Sophie died when he was four and he moved with his father to Glasgow where Samuel worked as tailor. In June 1924 Samuel remarried to Jeanie Goodman. Samuel and Jeannie had two sons, Hyman and Max. Hyman emigrated to Auckland, New Zealand and Max emigrated to New South Wales, Australia. Nathan was an air gunner on Wellington LN349 which departed RAF Chivenor on a special duties operation over the Bay of Biscay. The aircraft ditched into the sea killing both Nathan and air bomber John Fleming. The rest of the crew survived. The story of their rescue by survivor Peter May can be found on the link below.
