In 1939 Ronald was listed as an acting Pilot Officer and on 1 May 1941 he was promoted to Flying Officer.
Ronald was the pilot of Blenheim Z9663 which was among six Blenheims tasked to attack shipping in the Gulf of Sirte on the northern coast of Libya. At 14.04 they located three ships and Ronald hit Priaruggia a large M/V 3. His aircraft was seen to be hit and crashed into the sea as he climbed over the sea. There were no survivors.
