Hyam was born on 9 Aug 1921 in Hackney to Simon and Hannah nee Weiner and was the youngest of six children. Their father worked as a cabinet maker in Shoreditch.

Hyam known as Mick was killed in aircraft Boston BZ557. The crew were flying on a night intruder/armed recce of Villafranca aerodrome when the aircraft was hit by flak. The aircraft was seen to be enveloped in fire when it crashed with no survivors.
