Adolph was born on 17 August 1913 in Hackney, London to Poland born father Maurice, a wool merchant, and London born mother Fanny nee Englander and was an only child. Adolph married Margaret King in October 1939 in Willesden and they lived in Regal Way in Wembley. The 1939 Register states that Margaret was a private secretary and Adolph worked as a research metallurgist at a brass foundry before enlisting in the Army.
