Leo was born on 10 November 1915 to Polish born Boaz and Mirjam Wolfson and had one brother Jack. Their father Boaz was born in Druja, Poland and worked as a tea merchant. In 1939, the family were living in Hampstead, London and Leo is listed as working as a stage actor. Leo attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art graduating in 1938.
Leo was the navigator on Mosquito DZ644 with his pilot Harry Ernest Lloyd Griffiths, 655697. The aircraft departed RAF Upwood at 23:45 hours for an attack on oil refineries at Homberg. It was shot down by flak crossing the French coast on the return journey at 02:40 hours crashing at Leubringhen near Marquise killing both men.
