Jack was born in 1922 in Mile End, London to Polish father Edward Ulreich and London born mother Aggie née Goldstein. In 1921, Edward and Aggie married and lived at 81 Exmouth Street in Stepney, London where Jack was born. Edward and Aggie also had a daughter Jessie who sadly died soon after her birth in 1927. In 1931, Edward became a naturalised British citizen. In 1939, the family were living at 189 Jubilee Street, Hackney where Jack’s father Edward was working as a fur machinist. Jack was a member of the Stepney Jewish Lads Club and is commemorated on their memorial.

Jack was an air bomber on Halifax DT567 which departed RAF Snaith on a night operation to mine off the Frisian Islands. The aircraft was shot down and lost without trace.
