Harold was born in January 1926 in Stepney, London to Samuel Goldstein and Alice nee Mantus and had one sister Marion. Harold’s cousin was Gerald Mantus who was also died serving. He was killed alongside his father Harry by a V2 rocket at Hughes Mansions six months after Harold’s death. Mantus, Gerald | The Jews of the RAF

Harold was bought up in Hackney and the family lived at 203 Navarino Mansions where Samuel worked as a works manager at a woodwork factory. Samuel also volunteered as an ARP Warden and a transport driver.

Harold died from injuries sustained in a road accident in Germany whilst serving with 83 GDS.
