Albert was born on 12 May 1918 in Reading, Berkshire to London born father Henry and Jamaica born mother Lula nee Rackham and he had an older brother Edward and a younger brother Michael. Their father Henry worked as a civil servant in the Post Office and he died young aged forty-seven in 1935. He is buried in East Ham Jewish cemetery.
In 1939, Albert was listed as working as an architect and living with his two brothers at 110 Holmleigh Road in Hackney, London. It is not known when Albert joined the Royal Navy. He was killed in action on board H.M.S. Hood.
