Alan was born in 1921 in Hampstead to Alfred (Abraham Isaac) and Lena nee Block and had a younger sister Tilda. The 1939 Register states that the family lived at 84 Fortune Green Road, Hampstead and Alfred worked as a repairing tailor.

Alan joined the RAF in 1941. He worked as an armourer in 99 Squadron. On 10 March 1943 at RAF Digri, Alan was recorded in the Operational Record Book: ‘Whilst driving a tractor on the camp was killed by losing his way and falling into an excavation. The death was the subject of a Court of Enquiry’.
