David was born in October 1922 in Marylebone, London to Clifford and Gwendoline nee Van Damm and his parents divorced when he was young. Gwendoline’s brother Vivian ran the Windmill Theatre in London. Gwendoline moved to USA and David became the ward of his uncle Louis Infield who had married Gwendoline’s sister Georgina. David worked as an articled clerk at a chartered accountants before he enlisted.

David was killed when he walked into a rotating propeller of a Wellington aircraft. His death certificate states ‘due to war operations’ and he died at RAF Halton Hospital.
