Wolf was the son of Leo and Sophie of Erfurt, Germany.

In February 1939, as the persecution of Jews increased, Wolf managed to obtain a permit and fled Germany travelling on a Polish passport, his father Leo’s nationality. His brother Siegfried escaped from Germany in June 1939.

They left behind their parents and younger brother Issy who were deported to the Nowy Sącz ghetto in Poland. Letters were received from their parents until 1941 when they were killed in the Holocaust.
