Edward was born in 1920 in Brentford, Middlesex to Moss (Moses) and Sarah née Epstein. He had two older sisters Marla and Barbara. WW1 records for Moss state that he served in the Durban Light Infantry until his discharge in 1906. He enlisted in WW1 serving in the Army Service Corps. In 1939, Edward’s father Moss was living in Gravesend working as a director of a pawnbrokers. He died in 1944 six months after his sons death. In 1929 Edward Myer joined the County School for Boys in Gravesend and was a proficient sportsman playing in the school rugby team. He left school in 1937 and started work as a tailors apprentice. Edward married Phoebe in Paddington in 1941 and their daughter Gillian was born in 1944 three months after her father’s death. At the time of Edward’s death his mother, wife and daughter had moved to Gravesend as their home had been destroyed in the Blitz.

Edward was the wireless operator/air gunner on Lancaster DS843 which departed RAF East Moor on a night operation to bomb the Magdeburg/Rothensee plant that produced synthetic oil. The aircraft was shot down by a night-fighter over the target. Four of the crew were killed and three became prisoners of war.
