Eric was born on 10 September 1906 in Camberwell, London to Sydney and Beatrice née Isaacson who were stage actors and both pre deceased him. Eric was an actor and stage manager who performed at the Haymarket in London and in the film ‘Inquest’ which was released in 1939. In 1937 he married actress Murlis MacFarquhar who was born in Burma and lived in Scotland. In 1939, Eric and Murlis were living at 55 Hamilton Road, Hendon where he is listed as an actor and an ambulance driver and Murlis was working as a library manageress. Their son Jolyon was born in 1941 six months after his father’s death.

Eric was the pilot of Wellington T2546 which departed RAF Newmarket on a night operation to Berlin. On the return they were lost and crashed near Otterburn, Northumberland killing Eric and injuring one other crew member Sgt Hill.

Eric’s AJEX Chaplain card states: He was first with 79 Squadron and had been stationed at Harwell, Didcot and Mildenhall. He was husband of Mrs M Hallows, of Russley, Wood Ditton Rd., Newmarket. He was killed in action on 30/10/40 and buried at Willesden Jewish cemetery in London in grave FX-13-554. The Jewish Chronicle was notified on 1/11/40, published notification of his death on 8/11/40 and that he was buried on 4/11/40, the funeral being officiated by Rev. Gollomb, HCF.’
