Henry was born in October 1924 in Islington, London to Russian born parents Frederick Isaac and Regina nee Zimmerman and he had an older sister Zelda. Frederick worked as a violinist and his siblings were also musicians working in London hotels. Frederick eventually ran an employment agency known as the Metro-Plaza theatrical agency and owned a premises at Dreamland amusement park in Margate.

Henry enlisted as a trooper in the Royal Armoured Corps and was training at Canford Magna. He was killed on 6 December 1943 at Gravel Hill, Canford Magna. His death certificate states that he died from ‘Fracture of the base of the skull causing haemorrhage into the brain following the overturning of a military carrier in which he was a member of the crew’.
