David was born on 28 January 1914 in Edmonton, Middlesex to Joseph who was born in Poland and Fanny nee Mankoff who was born in Latvia and he had two brothers Sidney and Leon and two sisters Henrietta and Gertrude. In 1921, the family lived at 61 Grosvenor Road, North London where Joseph worked as a hairdresser. By 1939, they had moved to Queen’s Drive in Stoke Newington and David was working as a salesman for a men’s outfitter.

David was admitted to the Queen Alexandra Military Hospital in Watford, Hertfordshire and on 26 July 1941 he had an operation for a carbuncle of the kidney but died the next day.
