Louis was born in 1922 in South Africa to Bennie and Annie Loewenson. In 1940, aged eighteen, Louis enlisted in the RAF in Rhodesia. He travelled on the Warwick Castle steamship which arrived in Liverpool on 12 August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louis married Joyce Hughes from Bridgend, Glamorgan in December 1943 and their son David was born nine months later, six months after Louis’ death. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louis was the flight engineer on Lancaster JB549 which departed RAF Grimsby on a night operation to Berlin. The aircraft was missing without trace and all the crew are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
